I think that to a enthusiastic family history researcher the act of searching through census records for a ‘name’ is as addictive as hunting for gold coins with a metal detector.
I agree it is the journey then the excitement of finding, but a bit more detective work than pot luck.
Oh it definitely feels like a treasure hunt! There is certainly detective work, but there are times when it does seem like just “pot luck” – when you find something totally unexpected.
It’s all thrilling – when the hard work pays off or when it’s just serendipity.
